Paediatric Care

Paediatric

What does treatment involve?

Our chiropractors use gentle, safe techniques and the lightest fingertip pressure to help ease tension in newborns’ and toddlers’ little bodies. Sian and Mikaela are experienced at treating babies having completed specific post graduate training. For babies, we do our best to allow your baby to feel relaxed and at ease during their treatment. We use a special baby bean bag that supports and moulds around your baby during treatment. For children, we take the time to explain chiropractic treatment in a friendly, fun way.

How does treatment work?

Chiropractic treatment for the paediatric population differs significantly from the treatment approaches used for adults. Gentle cranial-sacral and spinal techniques are used to improve the function of your child’s spine, nervous system and cranial system. Younger spines are much more flexible than in adulthood and they heal amazingly well meaning children respond to care much faster.

Does my baby need chiropractic treatment?

Even the most natural birth and start to life can result in stress to such a delicate system. Research shows that 90% of babies go through trauma in the uterus, through the birth canal during labor or after birth. This is why we believe it is vital to ensure their joints and muscles function correctly to help them achieve their developmental milestones optimally. Some of the many benefits of paediatric manual therapy include improved sleeping habits as well as reduced irritability and discomfort. Our chiropractors aim to alleviate your little one’s muscular tensions and ensure they are happy laying on their backs so they can move freely and sleep peacefully.

Children on the other hand may have multiple falls whilst learning to walk and playing. We feel it is important that children have their spine checked during development to ensure that small issues do not turn into larger issues later in life. We believe we are encouraging them to have the best start in life by making sure they are growing tall, strong, straight and healthy.

Feeding issues in babies.

It is not uncommon for babies to have a preference in looking to one side over the other. Because their skull is so soft, this may cause a slight flattening at the back of their head as well as tight musculature around the jaw and the neck. This can lead to babies feeling discomfort and irritable while breastfeeding, and may also cause a poor latch.
Through paediatric manual therapy and advices/tips for mums to take home, the baby would be in optimal position to regain equal head and neck range of motion, and a relaxed tension-free jaw for a more comfortable latch and improved breastfeeding experience.

We work very closely with Deborah Hanson, who is an excellent local lactation consultant. Her details are; https://birthdreams.co.uk/breastfeeding/

We see babies from as little as one week old, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Babies and Children

What does treatment involve?

Treating babies and children involves a gentle technique called “touch and hold” where the pressure used is no more than the pressure you would want applied to your eyelid. Lizzy is experienced at treating babies having completed specific post graduate training. For babies, we do our best to allow your baby to feel relaxed and at ease during their treatment. We use a special baby bean bag that supports and moulds around your baby during treatment. For children, we take the time to explain chiropractic treatment in a friendly, fun way.

Does my baby need chiropractic treatment?

Even the most natural birth and start to life can result in stress to such a delicate system. Many mums have found chiropractic care to be helpful for an array of problems. A healthy spine is vital to a child’s development. Extensive pressure is placed on a babies spine during birth especially during a difficult delivery involving forceps, ventouse or even cesarean.

Whatever the age of your child, chiropractic care is a safe and effective therapy.

Testimonials

We are proud to having a clinic based on referrals, here are what some of our patients say…

The first time I went to see Lizzy was in August and I was in a bad way. I had been suffering for at least 4 years with headaches, a really stiff neck, sore shoulders and lower back pain. I didn’t quite know what to expect at first? I needn’t have worried at all. Lizzy was fantastic with me, and put me at ease almost straight away. On my first visit Lizzy gave me a complete and thorough neuro-orthopedic examination, a complete description of the problems I had been putting up with, and a full and comprehensive treatment plan. I am now feeling much better and off painkillers as well. Which is a miracle all things considered!

ANDREW
Neck & Headache Sufferer

I went to see Guy just over two weeks ago with lower back pain and a problem with my right knee, both of which made walking, and particularly golf very uncomfortable. Like many a golfer, I had resorted to using Iboprufen to help me get through a round. Guy immediately suggested that I actually had a problem with my hip, and after a short consultation started to work on me. After a couple of visits, where he only gave me a deep massage treatment, he then started some gentle adjustments. After just two weeks, I am pleased to say that I am walking without a limp, I am completing 18 holes of golf without a problem and for the first time in over a year, I am actually playing to my handicap. Many thanks Guy.

RICHARD
Golfer

When I came to Lizzie I was truly broken. I had head, neck and shoulder issues that meant that I took a lot of pain killers. I also had tennis elbow which had prevented me from playing golf (…go figure!) for nearly a year, and I had an upper arm injury caused by a handbag. I had visited two other professionals (a chiro and a physio) over the course of the previous 12 months but neither had been able to ‘sort me out’. Then, as if by some miracle, Lizzie put her finger on the problem(s) during the first assessment/treatment session. Three months on, I am playing golf, the handbag injury has gone and most importantly of all, I am no longer taking pain killers to ‘mask’ the neck/head problem.

Long Term Desk Worker

I first went to Lizzy just after Christmas 2012. I was in so much pain I couldn’t function. The pain ran down my neck and across my shoulders. Lizzy diagnosed Thorasic Outlet Syndrome and I began treatment. Lizzy has a friendly attentive approach that allows you to put your trust in her. Her treatments ranged from simple adjustments to stretching and the use of acupuncture. 6 Months on I’m virtually pain free and back running a very busy life! Lizzy first treated Shannon after a fall at school. Shannon is a National swimmer and her fall was 2 days before South East Regional Swimming Championships. Lizzy treated her and although she couldn’t do Regionals the pain she was in was significantly relieved. When 12 months later Shannon hurt her shoulder she wanted to see Lizzy. She was fantastic and through adjustments, massage and acupuncture Lizzy got Shannon through Regional Championships, swimming three National Qualifying Times
